Terms of service
What you get when you buy a course, a book or a membership, what you may do with it, and how refunds work.
Last updated 7 September 2026
The agreement
These terms are the agreement between you and Squared Academy when you use this site, buy a course or a book, or hold a membership. Using the site means you accept them.
If you are buying on behalf of a company, you are telling us you are allowed to agree to these terms for that company.
Your account
An account belongs to one person. Keep the password to yourself, and tell us at mail+support@squared.academy if you think somebody else has it.
Give us an email address that reaches you. Access to what you bought, and every receipt, is delivered to that address.
You are responsible for what happens under your account, so long as we have not caused the problem ourselves.
What you are buying
Buying a single course gives you access to that course for as long as we run this service, along with its source code and project files, and any update we make to that course later.
A membership gives you access to every course and book included in it while the membership is paid up, including ones released during that time. It is not a purchase of each course: when the membership ends, access to the courses it opened ends with it, but anything you bought outright stays yours.
A book is delivered as a file to download and keep.
We describe access to a single course as lifetime access, and we mean the lifetime of the service rather than of any person. If we ever have to shut the service down, we will say so with as much warning as we can and make the materials you paid for available to download.
Refunds
Any course or book can be refunded within thirty days of purchase, for any reason, by writing to mail+support@squared.academy. You do not have to explain yourself.
A refund ends access to what it paid for.
A membership can be cancelled at any time and then runs to the end of the period already paid for. We do not refund part of a period that has already started.
What you may and may not do with the material
The courses, videos, books, source code and written material are ours or are licensed to us, apart from third-party components which carry their own licences and say so.
You may use the source code and project files from a course in your own work, including work you are paid for, without asking us and without paying anything further.
- You may not share your account or your access with anybody else.
- You may not download, copy, re-host or re-sell the course videos, and you may not remove or obscure the identifier they carry.
- You may not republish the written material or a book as your own, or use it to run a competing course.
- You may not scrape the site or attempt to work around the access controls on paid material.
Payment
Payments are taken by Polar, who act as the merchant of record. Your contract for the payment itself is with them, their terms apply to it, and they are responsible for charging the right tax for where you are.
Prices are shown before you pay and include any tax Polar has to add. We can change prices, but never for something you have already bought.
A membership renews automatically until you cancel it. If a renewal payment fails we will tell you and keep your access open for a short grace period before it lapses, so a card that simply expired does not cost you your courses.
Certificates
A certificate is issued automatically when you have completed every lesson of a course and passed every chapter quiz. It records that, and nothing more.
We can revoke a certificate that was issued in error, or one obtained by sharing an account or otherwise breaking these terms. A revoked certificate's page says so.
Availability
We work to keep the service running, but we do not promise it will never be unavailable. Maintenance, a failure at one of the companies we depend on, or something outside our control can interrupt it.
Courses change. We add lessons, re-record material that has gone out of date, and occasionally retire a course that no longer makes sense to teach. If we retire a course you bought outright, we will tell you and give you a way to download it.
Ending it
You can close your account whenever you like by writing to mail+support@squared.academy.
We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, in particular one being shared or used to redistribute the material. Where the breach is not deliberate we will warn you first and give you a chance to put it right.
If we close your account for a reason that is not your fault, we will refund what you have paid for access you can no longer use.
Liability
We teach engineering, and we do not promise that any particular result will follow from taking a course. What you build with it is your responsibility.
Nothing here limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not let us limit.
Otherwise, our total liability to you is limited to what you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim, and we are not liable for lost profits or other indirect losses.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya, and the courts of Kenya have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
If you are a consumer in a country whose law gives you rights that cannot be signed away, this does not take those rights from you.
Changes to these terms
When these terms change we update the date at the top of the page. If a change affects something you have already bought, we will email you before it takes effect.
